Our Statement of Faith

Statement of Our Intentions

Tekton Discipleship, like most ministries, endeavors to hold the highest standard when it comes to our pursuit of our faith. We hold the Bible to be the ultimate authority on matters of doctrine and faith.

Still, we are not proud enough to believe that we exclusively hold the keys of truth. We humbly submit that while our every intention is to hold the pinnacle of standard, we also realize that we see ‘as though through a glass dimly lit,’ and that when we enter into eternity, much of what we held as true may be laid bare as unfit for use.

We believe that denomination is beautiful, though often misguided, and that every denomination that keeps the central doctrines of faith has something to offer the body of Christ.

Therefore, it is our intention to form a statement of faith that is based on scripture, that is widely held by the body of Christ as a whole, and has withstood the test of time as being right and true, revealing both the present and historical interaction of a holy God with His people.

  • The Godhead

We believe in one living God, creator of all things, the standard and originator of perfection, without beginning or end, existing in three expressions – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – and that these are equal in every way. Though we may only perceive one expression at any time, He is always one and the same, not limited by any one expression, nor does any expression supersede another.

    God as Father

We believe that in the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. We believe that He created all things, living and not living, and man as the crown jewel of His creation and to be steward of the Earth He made. We believe that though He is beyond our ability to know and comprehend, He makes Himself known to us through the inspiration of scripture and His communion with His people.

    God as Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We believe in His sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe in His substitutionary and atoning death on the cross, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven where He is now exalted at the right hand of God and intercedes for His people as our High Priest, and His personal visible return to earth as promised in the Scriptures

    God as Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, regenerates the believer into new life in Christ at the moment of salvation, guides the believer into sanctification and Christ-likeness, and seals the believer unto the day of redemption. We believe that the Holy Spirit lives in every believer in Christ, and that He guides, instructs, and empowers them for godly living and service.

  • The Creation Event

We believe that God created the Earth to be a garden for His enjoyment. We believe that He then made man to be a part of his holy family, living in relationship with Him and carrying out His will on Earth. We believe that God brought the Earth into perfect order, and that before the fall of man, man was perfect before God.

    Sin

We believe that in the beginning, God created man with the intention of eternal relationship with Himself and for the stewardship of His Earth. We believe that when man chose to disobey God, he:

-Broke trust with God and therefore broke relationship

-Partook in active rebellion against God

-Spiritually died in separation from God

-Subverted his God given authority to steward the Earth to a lesser being

Because of sin, the world was introduced to disorder and the heart of every man who did not set his intentions on God became corrupt in every way.

    Salvation

We believe that despite our condition, God chose to enact a work of reconciliation and restoration on behalf of humanity. Though we were dead in our sin, He chose to send His son to fulfill the requirements of restoring right-relationship, to take on the punishment determined by a rebellious life, to restore man to life, and to take all authority in heaven and Earth to Himself.

We believe that no one comes to the Father except through Jesus and there is no way to eternal life or earthly peace except through Him. We believe that at the point of salvation, the one who repents of his sin is regenerated by the Holy Spirit, is freed from condemnation, becomes a new, living creation, and receives eternal life as an inheritance from God.

  • The Church

We believe in the universal Church, which is a living, spiritual body of Christ made up of all persons who have been regenerated and baptized by the Holy Spirit through saving faith in Jesus Christ, of which Christ is the head. We believe that God’s design is for the universal Church to manifest itself in local churches as patterned in scripture, and that every believer is to be a part of a local church. We believe in the autonomy of each local church under the headship of Christ to decide and govern its own affairs. We believe that God has given the local church the primary task of taking the good news of Jesus Christ to the world and helping believers grow and glorify the Lord.

  • Occupation on and of the Earth

We take the view that as the Church continues to grow in influence over the world, the world becomes a better place to live, as is evidenced by the spread of the gospel in history. We believe that we partake in a restorative act of the Earth as we occupy, partnering with Jesus to bring life both to its inhabitants and the land itself. We believe our three main occupations are to Love God, to Love our Neighbor, and to Go and Make Disciples, the three explicit commands Jesus made while on Earth and that the apostles saw fit to make eminent in their epistles. We also believe that these primary relational occupations are all carried out in earthly occupations, and that our work is fulfilled in industry, trades, the political sphere, business, invention, and our general goings-on. It is our view that God’s intention for man to steward his garden is one that has not ceased, and as we carry on our business here on earth we are to do everything as though unto the Lord, bringing restoration and excellence to everything we put our hands to.
